Honour your ancestors in Victoria’s Name a Place program

Do your ancestors hail from Victoria, Australia? Did they leave a lasting legacy in the State? If so, the Victorian Department of Transport and Planning wants to hear from you.  This is a remarkable opportunity to honour our Victorian ancestors’ (and non-ancestors’) contributions by nominating them for recognition in the naming of a street, road, park, community facility, or one of 400 different types of geographical features.

It is also a chance to share our genealogical research and ensure that our ancestors, who were often unsung heroes within their communities, are remembered for generations to come. To learn more about the program, follow the link to Name a Place in Victoria

Once there:

  1. Click on the PARTICIPATE tab;

  2. Select the START SURVEY button to access the submission form.

The process is quick and straightforward, especially if you’ve already written your ancestor’s story. Simply upload your document as part of the nomination (with perhaps a quick summary added to the beginning so the assessors can see why they should be considered).

Nominations close on 26 January 2025. So be quick, and don’t miss this opportunity to cement an ancestor’s legacy in Victoria’s rich history.

Let me know how you go.
